Breeches

Riding breeches are the cornerstone of every equestrian's wardrobe, and finding the right pair changes everything from your first posting trot to your last fence of the day. Whether you prefer a classic full-seat for dressage, a grippy knee-patch for hunters and jumpers, or the sleek fit of modern riding tights, we've curated a selection that performs in the saddle and looks sharp doing it.

Great breeches start with great fabric. You want a waistband that stays put when you're two-pointing, a seat that doesn't bag out by mid-ride, and enough four-way stretch that you never have to think about what you're wearing. Our collection includes styles with silicone grip in all the right places, moisture-wicking performance fabrics, and flattering cuts.

We stock breeches from brands that real riders trust. American Equus Performance Breeches bring technical-grade construction at a price that won't make you wince, with a clean, tailored silhouette that works equally well for a Saturday hack or a schooling show. Dapplebay rounds out the lineup with fun, fashion-forward styles that remind you riding is supposed to be joyful.

Not sure which style is right for you? Think about your discipline first: full-seat grip breeches give dressage and equitation riders maximum contact and stability, while knee-patch styles are the traditional choice for hunter/jumper riders who want clean leg lines over fences. Riding tights offer a compression-fit feel with a
streamlined look that's become increasingly popular across all disciplines for everyday schooling.

Fit matters more than anything else. A good pair of breeches shouldn't require a break-in period and should feel right the moment you pull them on.  Not sure of your size?  View our Size Guides

Frequently Asked Questions

Are riding breeches the same as riding tights?
Not exactly, but the distinction has blurred in recent years. Traditional breeches are typically made from a woven or heavier stretch fabric with a more structured fit, while riding tights use a lighter, compression-style knit fabric similar to athletic leggings, but with reinforced grip panels and a saddle-friendly seat. Both are
appropriate for schooling across disciplines; breeches remain the standard for rated shows. Many riders own both and switch based on the weather, workout intensity, or mood.

What is a full-seat vs. knee-patch breech?
The grip panel placement is the key difference. Full-seat breeches have a silicone or suede grip covering the entire seat and inner thigh, which gives dressage, equitation, and trail riders maximum contact and security, especially useful at the sitting trot. Knee-patch breeches have grip only at the knee, which is the traditional
choice for hunter/jumper riders who want a cleaner leg position over fences. Neither is "better"; it comes down to your discipline and personal preference.

How should riding breeches fit?
Breeches should fit snugly but not restrict movement. The waistband should sit comfortably without digging in or gaping, the seat shouldn't have excess fabric that bunches in the saddle, and the knee or ankle closures should lie flat against your boot. If you're between sizes, size up and check the seat fit. A tight seat is the most uncomfortable part of a poorly fitted breech and is difficult to adjust.
