Show Apparel

Show apparel is where equestrian fashion and competitive function meet. Whether you're preparing for your first schooling show or heading to a rated competition, what you wear on show day matters for your presentation, your confidence, and your compliance with the rulebook.

A well-fitted show coat is the centerpiece of any English competitive outfit. In the hunter ring, classic navy, black, or grey with a clean silhouette is the standard; dressage riders have more latitude for subtle embellishment but traditionally lean toward dark, tailored coats that project elegance over the horse. Equitation riders need a coat that sits perfectly through every position and transition with no pulling across the shoulders and no
rising hem when you two-point. Fit is everything, and a coat that doesn't fit correctly undermines the whole picture.

Show shirts complete the look underneath. A crisp white or light-colored show shirt with a stock tie for dressage, or a collared shirt with a pin for hunters, provides the polished base that a competition outfit demands. Look for wrinkle-resistant fabrics that stay crisp through a long show day, and cuts that stay neatly tucked through every rising trot and canter transition.

Competition breeches carry their own standards: traditional white or cream for dressage, tan for hunters and jumpers in many classes. The show ring is not the place to discover that your breeches gap at the waist or pill after two wearings. Invest in quality show breeches that fit precisely and hold their shape through a long day of classes.

From warm-up ring to championship round, our show apparel collection covers what you need to step into the ring looking and feeling your best.

Frequently Asked Questions

What do you wear to a horse show?
For English disciplines, the standard show outfit includes a certified safety helmet, show coat (jacket), show shirt with appropriate collar or stock tie, breeches in the correct color for your discipline, tall boots, and gloves. Specific requirements vary by discipline and competition level. For example, dressage attire is more formal than hunter/jumper at lower levels, and schooling shows are generally more relaxed than recognized competitions. Always check the rulebook for your specific organization (USEF, USDF, USHJA) before purchasing show attire, especially for higher-level or rated classes.

What color breeches do you wear for hunters vs. dressage?
For hunters and equitation, tan or beige breeches are the traditional and widely accepted choice at most levels. White or cream breeches are common in dressage and required at many USDF-recognized shows from First Level and above. Some hunter shows allow white breeches, and the rules are evolving, but tan remains the safest choice for hunters if you're unsure. Always verify with your trainer and the specific show's rulebook before
competition day.

Do I need a show coat for every horse show?
Not necessarily. Many schooling shows have relaxed dress codes and allow a neat polo shirt or technical riding top instead of a formal coat. However, for any recognized, rated, or traditional horse show, a show coat is standard and often required. It's worth investing in at least one well-fitted show coat once you're showing regularly. It elevates your entire picture and helps judges take you seriously from the moment you enter the
ring.

How should a show coat fit?
A properly fitted show coat should lie flat across the shoulders without pulling or creasing, allow you to close it comfortably while in two-point position, and fall just below the seat of your saddle when standing. The sleeves should show a small amount of your shirt cuff. Try it on while seated if possible, as a coat that fits perfectly standing often pulls across the back and shoulders when you're in the saddle. If you're between sizes, prioritize
shoulder fit and have a tailor adjust the length or button stance if needed
